Long Wave Ceramic Infrared Emitters

Long Wave Ceramic Infrared Emitters Long Wave Ceramic Infrared Emitters are robust, standardized and very competitively priced. At 300 °C to 750 °C the ceramic heaters emit medium to long wave IR-radiation between 2 and 10 µm. Most plastics and many other materials absorb this wave length range very well. We supply two basic types: Solid Ceramic Emitters and Hollow Ceramic Emitters. The latter have a hollow space behind the heating coil that provides shorter heat-up and cool-down times and less heating losses to the rear. Both are available in standard dimensions either with or without thermocouples. Furthermore, matching accessories like reflectors are also available. These ensure that a radiation output of over 95 % can be directed to the front of the emitting surface.

Solid Ceramic Emitters

Solid Ceramic EmittersFTE (Full Trough Element) Solid Ceramic EmittersHTE (Half Trough Element)

Emission range Solid Ceramic Emitters FTE Due to their broad emissivity; long life, easy interchangeability and exact positioning solid ceramic emitters are used in many different applications. Classic examples of useage are found in plastics thermoforming, pre-heating and drying during printing and paint curing. Non-industrial applications include infrared saunas, patio heat emitters or thermal bridges for keeping food hot.

The white glazed ceramic surface protects the component from oxidation and corrosion. An alternative glazing in black or yellow is also provided. The latter changes colour in hot conditions so that individual failed emitters can be quickly located within a platen structure.

Hollow Ceramic Emitters

Hollow Ceramic EmittersFFEH (Full Flat Element Hollow) Hollow Ceramic EmittersSFEH (Square Flat Element Hollow) Hollow Ceramic EmittersHFEH (Half Flat Element Hollow) Hollow Ceramic EmittersQFEH (Quarter Flat Element Hollow)

Emission range Hollow Ceramic Emitters FFEH Hollow Ceramic Emitters are manufactured with a rear hollow that serves as a thermal barrier. Less heat is emitted to the rear. This saves energy resources as well as wear and tear on the surrounding cabinet. And due to their small mass, heating times are generally reduced by approx. 40 % when compared to solid ceramic emitters. Thus these emitters can often be used for cyclic and interruptable processes.

Even if it is possible to reach almost the same energy efficiency with solid ceramic emitters by using reflectors, hollow ceramic emitters have the advantage of operating efficiently also without reflectors (see research report). Energy is then "conserved" when using a reflector as it is less stressed. Finally due to the already "installed" radiation efficiency, the element is less dependent on the reflector's perfect functioning.

This is an important fact because the reflector's efficiency can rapidly decrease due to contamination, aggressive media and extreme heat.

Due to the volume of the installed hollow the hollow ceramic emitters are thicker than the solid emitters and are always in flat format.

thermocouple type K

A thermocouple type K (NiCr-Ni) can also be integrated into the elements. Due to the patented Cerix-technology it can be exactly positioned. This guarantees quick reaction times and repeatable measurements, as well as interchangeability with other emitters.

Long Wave IR-Systems & Accessories

Different IR-systems with ceramic emitters are becoming well established in various industrial sectors. Among them are reflectors and projectors. The latter are principally reflectors with a cabinet which allows a use as stand-alone solution. Reflectors, however, are often integrated as components in larger systems, platens or racks.

Reflectors for Ceramic Emitters

Reflectors for Ceramic Emitters [1 / 4] Ceramic emitters can be easily installed by means of reflectors. The emitters are fixed in the reflector and the reflector is screwed via two internal threads (see installation manual).

The polished aluminium coated surface of the reflectors provides an optimum reflection of the heat radiation. By directing this heat to the front the radiation losses to the rear are minimized. The reflector also protects the emitters and the mechanical connections. Reflectors are available for one to five ceramic emitters. They are also used when producing customized heating platens.

Projectors for Ceramic Emitters

Projectors for Ceramic Emitters [1 / 2] A projector is principally a reflector with cabinet. This cabinet allows a simple fixing, e.g. at a dryer. As an alternative the projectors can also be used as terminal for a direct wall fastening. The corresponding holders already exist as well as the 1.5 m connecting lead with flexible metal conduit.

Module IR 260

Module IR 260 [1 / 3] The IR 260 module is a robust modular configurable heating solution with highly efficient black ceramic hollow emitters SFEH type (2x2 arrangement). The dimension is 262 x 262 x 60 mm. The unit can be connected either in series or parallel, which allows the use with different supply voltages.

The outer housing is made of stainless steel, the internal reflector is made of polished aluminised steel, which provides the IR 260 module its highly reflective properties. Four M6 threaded bolts for mounting are located on the rear.

Optionally, one of the emitters can be fit with a type K thermocouple (incl. matching thermocouple connection plug). This enables the power to be controlled by the heater temperature.

The IR 260 module is a modular, scalable solution for machine builders and users who want to build their own IR ovens or convert or extend existing ovens.

The convenient mounting and time-saving connection makes this module perfect for every designer and installer.

Once the appropriate frame is in place, the modular design reduces installation and wiring time and enables economical and highly intensive IR heating with a power density of up to 35 kW/m2.
