Freek keeps out of high-volume business.

Record turnover in 2007.

Menden. Plastic producing machines need heat. This is what Friedr. Freek GmbH provides with its electrical heating elements. A few years ago, the company even produced the smallest heating elements worldwide (section 1.0 x 1.6 mm). "Now, this is standard, but we have been the first", managing director Wolfgang Kaiser emphasizes.

Friedr. Freek GmbH understands itself as a specialist for niche applications, it keeps out of high-volume business. "We are experts for niches, this is our strength. We have partners for the other fields", Kaiser says. Freek is part of a company network of independent small and medium-sized companies which share a common stand at the plastic fair "K" in Düsseldorf. Thus each partners profits from the fair contacts of the others as well.

"The fair is a wonderful opportunity to safeguard the future", Kaiser thinks. After all the date was suitable for all participants in order to plan the next business year. Freek is also regularly present at the plastic fair Fakuma in Friedrichshafen, but there only the regional marked is reached, the managing director says. At the "K" the complete Asian market is present. "There are no spots in the world which do not know about the K", Kaiser explains.

In order to present the products attractively, the company decided to use glass showcases which represent glowing heating elements. Thus they want to address customers from all industries who have to deal with process heating. This year, Freek GmbH registers a turnover of more than six million Euros and thus writes company history as this is the highest turnover since setting up business in 1950. The production hall in Menden has recently been extended by 500 square metres. "That has not been easy, but, as many employees are from environs", Kaiser explains, "it was important to stay at the same site and to extend there." - LE
